Reckless Driving
Reckless driving is one of the more serious offenses that can be found in the Vehicle and Traffic Law. The essence of the offense, is that the driver unreasonably interferes with the use of the highway by others or unreasonably endangers users of the highway. Upon conviction, the penalties aer as follows: the imposition of five points against your license, and although no mandatory suspension or revokation of a driver's license is called for, it can be the subject of a permissive suspension or revocation. There is a mandatory suspension, if the crime is committed in the six month probationary period that follows licensing. In addition, the maximum sentence of this misdemeanor is thirty days in jail and a substantial fine. Specific conduct whic has been held to constitute reckless driving includes:
